Is the Bible Based On Science?

Here’s a thought I’ve been mulling over recently, and I have no idea if it’s true, or what it’s implications are.

What if the Bible is based on actual science, but God didn’t feel like He needed to explain the underlying scientific proofs of everything He did, or everything He’s doing?

For example, in the personal development field, they talk about autosuggestion as a means of influencing your subconscious mind to believe certain things, increase faith in yourself, achieve greater results in your life, and thereby affect change in your life however you choose.

To perform the psychological technique of autosuggestion, you repeat affirmations to yourself, and meditate on something for an extended period of time.  But doesn’t that look and operate a lot like prayer?

Another example – secular psychologists have done studies and found that when couples live together (and have sex together) before they’re married, they are more likely to divorce.  Doesn’t that sound like a good reason not to have premarital sex?  Doesn’t that sound like the biblical idea of abstaining from sex until married?

Moses and his people in the wilderness – they were not allowed to eat fish without scales.  Well, fish without scales, e.g. catfish, due to some physiological functions relating to their digestion of food, were known to carry a higher risk of causing bacterial infection in the person eating the fish.  There’s science to back that all up now, but God didn’t tell them that in the Bible.  I suppose because He didn’t feel like He needed to explain every friggin’ detail… just do these things, live this way, and life will be good for you.

I’m sure there are more examples.  Maybe somebody should actually research all this stuff and write a book about it someday.  Maybe someone already did!

So what can we do with this idea?

I suppose some people will use it to bolster their faith, while others will use it to decrease their faith.

For me, it increases my faith.  My thought is – why does it have to be science VERSUS faith?  My thought is that maybe it’s not one-or-the-other.

My other thought is this:  man could spend a few millenia figuring all this stuff out via science, and struggle all along the way, or they could just read the Bible, and just cut to the chase and live with less struggle and strife.  I suppose then, in the end, man will always and forever ask, “why?”

What do you say?
